About Ash


Ashwika Kapur is an academically qualified Science Communicator and an international award-winning Natural History Filmmaker. She's currently a Director with the BBC Natural History Unit in the UK, working on a landmark wildlife TV series for National Geographic.

Born in Kolkata, in 2014, Ash became India’s first and only woman to win a 'Green Oscar' or the Panda Award in a global category, for her film about a New Zealand Kakapo Parrot called Sirocco. With that, she kick-started her career in the Natural History Film Industry. She has also been recognised at other eminent festivals, such as Jackson Wild, where she has been a Grand Teton Finalist, and at the Royal Television Society awards in the UK, the oldest Television Society in the world, as a finalist for Best On-Screen talent for her role as Presenter in the CBBC programme Planet Defenders.

Ash’s time & projects have been split between Asia, United Kingdom and New Zealand. She’s worked as a Director & Producer, a Camera-op, Development A.P, a Voice Over Artist and Presenter. She is also the narrator for Tigeropolis – a 10-part Tiger Conservation Series for young listeners running on multiple radio channels across the UK and Scotland. Ash has experience working on shows for networks such as the BBC, Animal Planet, Discovery Channel, Netflix and Disney. Other companies she’s worked with have been NHNZ, Wildstar Films, Silverback Films, Plimsoll Productions, and Humble Bee Films & Round Glass Sustain, India. 


Other Engagements

A British Council Charles Wallace Scholar and Awardee, Ash is a seasoned public speaker, host and science-communicator. She has given hundreds of school and public talks, lectured at university level, and has been keynote speaker at several platforms and hosted several live events for platforms including Tedx Talks, WWF, Earth Day Network and United Nations Climate Conference. She has served as an international storytelling mentor for the Natural History Museum of London and as a mentor for emerging filmmakers for Wildscreen & Screenskills UK. She has served on the Jury of the prestigious Panda Awards, RTS and other eminent festivals, and serves on the Committee of the Royal Television Society of West England, the oldest television society in the world.
